Pastor, singer, leader, friend; these are just a few of the ways you could describe Demetrius Hicks. But don’t box him in, because he has made a habit of breaking molds and thinking outside the box.
Born and raised in Montgomery, AL, Demetrius has always had a love of music and the gift of singing and leading people into worship. As a teenager, he could be found harmonizing to the music of Shania Twain, or turning up with Kirk Franklin, or worshipping with Hillsong. Never one for being confined to a stereotype, Demetrius has lived a life with a tradition of defying norms. His leadership in the area of diversity is making waves across Alabama as he pursues God’s heart for a multicultural church; and that heart extends through his life and into his music. He currently serves as the Associate Pastor at Move Church in Gardendale, AL, where he is leveraging his platform to create unity in the body of Christ.
On September 18th, Demetrius released his debut album, “I Am Free”, which reached as high as number 18 on the iTunes Christian and Gospel Charts. As an independent artist, his album is reaching unheard of places with a style that cannot be defined. His sound remains unconfined to a genre, but completely confined in its purpose; to point people to the freedom found in Christ. No matter where you find Demetrius Hicks, you’ll find him doing one thing; pursing Jesus and pointing others to Him.
